The author is Dave Pelzer who is actually the child that is written in the book. He was born on December 29, 1960 in San Francisco, California. He was the second child in a family of five. His parents names wear Catherine Roerva Christen and Stephen Joseph Pelzer. His mother was an alcoholic and mentally deranged, and his father was an alcoholic. The severity of the abuse almost took Pelzer’s life on several occasions. Social services deemed Pelzer’s abuse the most horrendous and gruesome of all such cases reported by that time in California.Dave moved around from foster home to foster home, but once he was old enough he enlisted into the Air Force. He got married and Two years latter and had a son, but the marriage didn't last. He was a fighter pilot for the Gulf war, and He had earned the California Volunteer of the Year and the JC Penney Golden Rule Award in 1990.
In 1995 he wrote A Child Called “It”, he recalled all the abuse his mother gave him weather physically, emotionally and mentally from age 4 to 12. He also has written help book for children and teenagers. His brother Richard B. Pelzer also wrote about the child abuse he had in, A Brother’s Journey.
